Visitor Card

With a document issued by secretary Ruti Peled stating that you are a postdoc, or a member of a postdoc family, you may go to the Hospitality Unit (grand floor of building 30, see campus map, Sun,Tue,Wed,Thu 8:30-11:30, linked page works only in some browsers) and claim your Visitor Card .

Having the card has the following advantages:

  • you can use the card as an identification document at the gates to the University
  • for the first two weeks since the card is given to you, you can enter the swimming pool for free; after the first two weeks you still have a good chance to get into the swimming pool for free, but it may require certain personal skills in dealing with the guards at the gate to the Sports Centre.
It should be noted, that the Visitor Card does not work with the automatic gate to the Sports Centre. It implies, that even during the first two weeks it is usually necessary to patiently explain your case to the guards. They are not used to Visitor Cards and basically they are not used to move from their comfortable chair. All other users of the Sports Centre as a rule have either a magnetic Student Card, or a magnetic card issued by the Manager of the Swimming Pool (see the Sports Centre chapter for details) and in contrast to Visitor Card holders, can enter freely the Sports Centre without any intervention from the guard.

Student Card

With a document issued by secretary Ruti Peled stating that you are a postdoc, you may claim your Student Card . In order to get your card, go to the Student Centre (building 70, see campus map, Sun-Thu 10:00-14:00). In the main hall, immediatelly after the entrance, there is a small Kiosk housing the administration of the Students Association. Show the document given to you by Ruti and ask for your card. The cost of the card is 20 NIS (cash required).

Having the card has the following advantages:

  • you can use the card as an identification document at the gates to the University,
  • you can use the card as a magnetic library card; it is not necessary to have a magnetic library card; alternatively, you will need to remember your account number,
  • it allows you to enter the Sports Centre in a automated way (see also the paragraph above about Visitor Cards and the paragraph below about Memberhsip in the Students Association).
The document is physically identical to the document issued to all regular students of the University. The Card is valid for one academic year.

Membership in the Students Association

All regular students are members of the Students Association. Being a postdoc you can become a member only if you pay approximatelly 600 NIS for your membership. You arrange the membership in the same Kiosk , where the Student Cards are issued. You can do it at the same time, when you arrange your Student Card, but doing it later is also possible. The payment for membership is received only via post office (free of charge) or via a bank transfer (in HaPoalim 10 NIS fee).

Having the membership has the following advantages (incomplete list):

  • you can attend classes of yoga, capoeira, aerobic etc (a lenghty list of avaliable activities is avaliable in Hebrew in the Kiosk) at a discounted price ,
  • you can save 50 NIS on a one year subscription in cinema on campus,
According to the administration of the Students Association, membership in the Students Association is required from postdocs who want to use the swimming pool. This is not true . An ordinary Student Card is enough.

The only proof of your membership is your Student Card and a proof of transfer of 600 NIS. It is recommendable to keep the proof of transfer, in a case you will need to obtain a copy of your Card. The Student Card is physically identical to an ordinary Student Card issued to all regular students, in particular it is physically identical to the Card issued to postdocs who are not members of the Students Association. The membership is valid for one academic year.
