12/12/01: The midterm will be held on Friday, 21/12/01. It's with
open material. Please note that the questions are multiple-choice, but
each question may have several correct answers, and you are required
to mark all of them. The grading formula for each question is as
follows: Suppose C is the set of correct answers for a certain
question. Let M be the set of question you have marked as
correct. Let I be the size of the intersection of the sets and
U the size of the union. Your grade on the question is
I/U (times the number of points on the question).

follows. First, the weighted average of the midterm and the final (10%

normalized so that the class average will be 64. Then, for students
whose normalized weighted average is at least 56, the homework grade
will be taken into account as 30% of the final grade.

20/2/02: Here are the details regarding the final grade calculation.
Suppose your grades were:
h - homework average.
m - midterm.
e - exam.
Calculate:
a = 0.1 m + 0.9 e.
b = 1.351 a.
The final grade is:
0.7 b + 0.3 h, if b >= 56,
56, if 56 > b >= 53 and h >= 80,
b, otherwise.
For students who were exempted from the midterm, calculate b above by:
b = 1.344 e.
