Asi is a PhD candidate in the computer science department of Ben-Gurion university. He received his B.Sc and M.Sc. in computer science from the Hebrew university of Jerusalem and Ben-Gurion university, respectively.
Asi is a member of a research group that aims to understand, process, and archive historical documents to make them available for scholars and researchers in various disciplines, such as history, linguistic, and archaeology. Asi research interests focus on document image segmentation and pattern recognition. His research tackles challenging problems in historical document image processing and provides efficient solutions for retrieving document images from large scale archives. Asi serves as an algorithm developer in a tri-lateral project that brings researchers from different disciplines and countries to develop a system for historical document image processing.
Since 2011, Asi has been volunteering in a socially oriented academics association (Medad) which recruits and encourages academics and post-graduates to enrich the cultural and educational atmosphere in their village (local community). Since 2009, Medad's activity is inspiring groups of Arab academics in different parts of the country who recognize the great potential of social involvement and its effect on local communities. Through the recent years, Asi has been presenting this volunteering model in various venues including community and university talks.
