Appeals to Homeworks
If you would like to appeal about your grade in the homework, you can come to my office after registering in the appeaks schedule.
  • Appeals are possible only on working/not-working issues. Appeals about bonuses, code quality, missing files, etc. are not excepted.
  • Come prepared: You will have to demonstrate why your work actually works. I will not do it for you.
  • In any case there will be a 10% penalty for the re-check.

Assignment 6 final deadline and submission rules
The deadline for assignment 6 is postponed to Saturday, 4/4, 23:59 (midnight).

Due to the grades submission deadline this is the final date. I cannot postpone it further.

As a special consideration, you may submit this assignment in pairs of teams - That is, a single going-out service for two teams who worked on a cinema and a restaurant services.

Assignment 6 published
Assignment 6 is published. It is reduced in scope, and you don't have to use special tools, such as BPEL, to implement it - A Java implementation is OK. The deadline is until the end of the month. It is mostly based on assignment 5. Checking will be as per assignment 5 - I.e, frontal checking by request.

Assignment 5 frontal check
The possible time slots for a frontal check on assignment 5 are listed here. The frontal check will be a simple work/no-work check. Prepare in advance anything you need. If we can test your application from the dept. server, you do not have to come to a frontal check.

Thor overload, cont'd
There are still difficulties to deploy from WID on Thor to coppermine5, probably due to the general overload on the dept. network and servers.

To compensate for this problem, without creating more workload for you, see these relaxations for assignment 5.

Also, the assignment is postponed to Monday evening.

Thor overload
Several students complained that Thor is very slow. I guess that this is due to the fact that many of you are finally working on it. It is good thing, but we have to figure a way to reduce the load on Thor.

I will try to check with the lab what they can do. Meanwhile, I extend the deadline in a couple of days, to until Tuesday.
Do not use this extension to work on the last minute!
Instead, try to divide the time among the teams, so each team will get a more free "Thor time".

I hope I will have better answers on Sunday.

Be careful with the server!
During the last day the WPS server on coppermine5 was shut down a couple of times. I suspect that it might be due to students pressing "Restart server" or "Stop server" from WID. Please do not stop or restart the server! You can restart your project by right-clicking on the server's line and selecting "Restart project" from the menu.

How to deploy a web service from Eclipse to CS Tomcat
This page contains approximate instructions of how to transfer a web service that was developed Using Eclipse and Axis to the CS dept. Tomcat directory. Note that these instructions might require tweaking according to the way you developed your application. Thank to Rafael Dakar for trying this out.

Supplementary lesson on Thursday morning
On this Thursday, 19/2/2009, there will be a supplementary lesson from 08:00 to 10:00 at bldg. 34 room 009. Since this is a classroom with a network connection, I will use this lesson to show some demos that we can't hold in the regular classroom. I will also leave a lot of time for questions and answers.

Since that our servers should be finally working, the deadline for assignment 5 is set to Sunday Feb. 22. You can either use the finally-working WID and WPS platform, or use Axis on the existing Tomcat platform - Just add Axis to your Tomcat dir. Instructions for DOM schema validation
After some digging, I got it. You can find instructions for validating XML documents before DOM parsing here. Of course, the parsed file has to match the schema, or you'll get an error (SAXException or a call to the error handler).
